Council Secretary's message
Kotagala Pradeshiya Sabha has been established on 20.03.2018 by
the special gazette number 2043/57 in the establishment of new local government bodies.
I consider it a matter of great happiness and good fortune to be able to present my message
as the secretary during the creation of the web page of the Kotagala local council located
in the Nuwara Eliya district of the Central Province of the Democratic Socialist Republic of
Sri Lanka.
Around 75,000 Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and Christian people live in Kotagala
Pradeshiya Sabha's area of 94.34 square kilometers. Also, there are 05 major cities in
Kotagala, Pathana, Bogahawatta, Watagoda and Palmaston and 28 estates in Kotagala local
council area.
Kotagala Pradeshiya Sabha is the predecessor local government body, Nuwara Eliya Pradeshiya
Sabha and after the establishment of Kotagala Pradeshiya Sabha, 18 Grama Niladhari Domains
and 10 Divisions also belong to this council.
Commercial Wetland Area, Devon Falls and St.Clair Falls can be mentioned as attractive
places for local and foreign tourists.
The area of Kotagala local council, which is located in a mountainous terrain at a height of
1200 meters above sea level, is generally a wet region, with an average annual rainfall of
less than 2000 mm and an average temperature of 24 degrees Celsius.
I would like to inform you that all the officers and employees of the council are committed
to achieve the aspirations of all the people residing in the area of Kotagala local council.
